On the evening of Wednesday, January 1, 2025, we kicked off our Winter Series. Our theme for the series (and this will be the theme for each series this year) was "What Does the Bible Say About...?"
Our first lesson in the series, "Social Drinking," was delivered by Anderson Judd. Anderson is currently (as of the time the lesson was delivered) a student at Freed-Hardeman University and expects to graduate in December 2025, and showed a remarkable command of God's word on this difficult subject. He also will be preaching one Sunday morning each month during the school year, and will be working with us throughout the summer of 2025. Upon his graduation, he will begin working with Grundy Street in an Associate Minister capacity.
Our second lesson in the series was "Homosexuality." This was delivered by Ralph E. Thompson, who is the minister of the Green Meadow church of Christ in Shelbyville, TN. Brother Thompson is also a member of the faculty at the Nashville School of Preaching, where he is known as the "Walking Gospel Meeting."
The third lesson in the series was "Cohabitation Outside of Marriage." Tony Lawrence, who is in the process of retiring from a lengthy tenure at the Bybee Branch church of Christ in McMinnville, TN, delivered this powerful lesson on a problem (a sin!) that is so accepted by society today that it is often not even recognized as such. We know the good folks at Bybee Branch are going to miss Brother Lawrence!
The fourth lesson in this series was "Abortion." Chris Perry, who is the preacher at the Morrison church of Christ in Morrison, TN delivered a powerful lesson on this hot-button topic, emphasizing that this is not a political issue as many have tried to define it, but rather is a moral issue.
And the fifth and final lesson in the series was "Transgenderism." This is another hot-button topic in today's society, and Ralph Hart of the Red Hill church of Christ in Manchester, TN addressed the topic with firmness, but also with grace and mercy as he emphasized that this is sin (rejecting or denying God's design) but that we must love those caught up in this sin and show compassion for them while still hating the sin itself.
Each of these speakers did an outstanding job of showing how the word of God applies to each of these difficult subjects! You can watch the videos of each of these lessons here. We look forward to additional lessons as we will continue to examine additional topics through the magnifying glass of "What Does the Bible Say About...?"
